The new series of The X Factor kicked off in style with a series of inventive and entertaining performances which left judges Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Cheryl Cole stunned.

While Cheryl Cole‘s malaria and Dannii Minogue’s pregnancy leave have perhaps been the most reported factors of the programme so far, the focus was most definitely back on the music tonight with a series of stunning songs from some hugely talented performers.

The most emotional performance of the night came from the Glasgow auditions in the form of 18-year-old student Gamu Nhengu.

Gamu told the judges how she wanted to give back something to her mother, who had struggled to raise her and her two brothers on her own.

Before going on stage she said: ‘We live in Scotland, just me, my two little brothers and my mum. My mum and I are really close – she’s a single parent and she pays the bills. Read full article.

THIS is the moment Cheryl Cole collapsed with the first signs of malaria in shocking X Factor audition scenes to be shown tonight.

The 27-year-old ITV talent show judge fell ill during filming in Cardiff.

She bravely carried on – but was rushed to hospital the next day after fainting at a photoshoot.

The dangerously poorly Geordie – unaware she had the disease – had just told Simon Cowell: “I don’t feel well at all.”

X Factor judge Cheryl Cole is seen mocking Geri Halliwell for being boring at the Glasgow auditions. And insiders fear Geri will be unhappy with the footage.

The former Spice Girl was standing in for heavily pregnant Dannii Minogue at the audition stage of the show.

TV insiders have seen the first programme at an exclusive screening. A Mirror reviewer said there’s a “whole sequence of her jabbering away inanely in her fake posh voice while Cheryl pulls various bored/bitchy faces beside her”.

Judge Louis Welsh is heard saying: “Geri talks and talks. And some of it makes sense… but not all of it.”

What do you look for in the contestants?

The best people that walk on stage are always the people that know what they want to be and already know what style of music they want, and have an image. That’s always when I know I’ve got something good to work with. All I’m looking for is somebody that is new, that is unique, that you look at and think, ‘you have got it, you’ve got the X Factor’.

Does it get any easier saying ‘No’ to auditionees?

No, it doesn’t get easier. These kids have been preparing and rehearsing at home, and this day is like the biggest day of their lives. It’s horrible. You can see their faces and they’re saying ‘Please’ to you sometimes. I just have to keep telling myself it’s not fair to patronise them, to keep something alive that’s not working. That’s one of the hardest parts actually, because there is always someone there that reminds you that this is their dream and it’s a big deal for them. Those few minutes are massive, and telling them ‘No’ is tough. Read full article.
